I do not view time as a linear flow but as a multidimensional phenomenon in which the past, present, and future exist simultaneously and merge. Memory is not only a personal resource but also an artistic material—something that constantly changes, disappears, and reappears. I am interested in thinking about what is invisible but still is—silence, emptiness, the not-yet-drawn. I approach the unrealised, the unfulfilled, with reverence—recognising the power of potential. In my work, the mother, grandmother, and ancestors appear repeatedly, yet they are not just presences; they are literally woven into my identity. I am the author, but I often disappear within the work or transform—becoming my grandmother, the viewer of a photograph, a child on a swing. I substitute myself with an image, a sound, or a movement, and in doing so I open myself to multiple experiences at once. From subjective memory, which is capricious and selective, I increasingly find inspiration in collective memory—rich with powerful imagery. For me, both thought and the sensuality of form are equally essential. I think about light, shadow, textures, and the physicality of material—and at the same time, these materials become metaphors: paper is skin, the pencil is time, silence is revelation.

In the second and third decades of the 21st century, Krista Vindberga's works have reached the pinnacle of Latvian art. All her skills in various fields—drawing, painting, video, installation, and scenography—have been acquired and refined in Latvia. This not only demonstrates perfect craftsmanship, which is rarely encountered elsewhere today, but also showcases her ability to conceptualize and precisely express the most complex phenomena, with art itself standing out like a giant smoldering volcano.
Krista Vindberga is one of the few intellectual artists in Latvia with outstanding knowledge and sensitivity in all academic fields of art, whether it be theater, dance, literature, or, above all, music.
In the digital age, Krista Vindberga immortalizes images and her feelings about them, as well as about people she may not have even known, capturing them just as in the past, when it was not shameful to talk about beauty in art and an artist could afford not to be an apologetic and moralizing know-it-all. If in the 17th century a Vanitas painter's uncertainty was hidden behind the frame of the painting, for Krista Vindberga, it is found within the work itself. Her works arrange themselves like prayer beads in a harmonious string, transferring their materiality to the perfection of the spiritual world.
Helēna DemakovaAt a time when the image is no longer an all-powerful tool of art, Krista Vindberga's works serve as model images—metaphors that can be interpreted in diverse and opposing ways: as genre scenes or sacred rituals, as documentary narratives or fiction, as loops that conceptualize repetition or as poetic Fluxus. The universal resonance of these meanings across her body of work inspires awe-filled admiration for the intoxicating nature of art.
